How to travel to Belo Horizonte

The Confins (CNF) international airport is your destiny. If you come from outside of Brazil, you may have a connection changing airplane at São Paulo (Guarulhos/GRU international airport) or Rio, and from there you take a flight to Confins.

Confins airport is about 35km away from the conference venue UFMG. There a few ways to arrive to UFMG (i.e. Pampulha region).

Option 1: by bus (R$16,80 + 3km walk or Uber ref:R$7-15, total ~1h)

The company Conexão Aeroporto offers this service. Exiting from terminal 1, you will probably be able to see their bus straight ahead at the end of the parking lot area. However, don’t go there yet. You have to buy the ticket first.

The bus ticket counter is located just beside the Terminal 1 exit. If you are standing at its exit facing the parking lot like the picture above, the ticket counter will be just behind you. Look back, to your left, as shown below.

You must buy a ticket (either online or at the local) for a CONVENTIONAL (not executive) bus from the Confins airport heading to TERMINAL RODOVIÁRIO (the city bus station), which costs only R$16,80. The advantage of the conventional bus is that it passes through the Aeroporto da Pampulha on its way (a smaller airport inside the city), which is very close to the hotels and the University. This will save you about 30 min (and some R$) from the roundtrip to downtown and back to Pampulha.

There are many departure times available in this link. When you embark the bus you should ask the driver to alert you once the bus reaches ”Aeroporto da Pampulha". The bus should take about 50 min to reach this stop. As you disembark, there will be plenty of taxis and Ubers nearby that can take you to your hotel in about 5 min. Should you miss the stop at the “Aeroporto da Pampulha” or take the EXECUTIVE bus, then you will end up at the TERMINAL RODOVIÁRIO, in downtown. In the disembark area (do not take the stairs up!) you can find taxis and Ubers that can take you directly to your hotel.

Option 2: by taxi (ref: R$120-150 or Uber, ref: R$60-100, total ~30min)

Taxis are ubiquitous and very easy to find outside the Terminal 1. When you exit the terminal, there should be many of them to your left.

Ubers have special embark points outside Terminal 1, in the central lane. They are marked with blue signs.
