Título/Title: Age, chemical abundance and velocity distributions in the disc of the Galaxy

Resumo/Abstract:

The disc is the most massive stellar population of the Galaxy and the
site of most current star formation. The disc is believed to be a
superposition of distinct components, the thin and thick discs. The
exact properties of these two components, their formation and their
interface are still hotly debated.
I will present some results obtained with spectroscopic observations
of various samples of stars, related to the velocity and metallicity
distributions of the thick disk, the abundance trends of alpha
elements in both components and the age-metallicity-velocity relations
in the thin disc. I will also briefly discuss the goldmine of
information that Gaia will give us about the origin and evolution of
the Galactic disc.
