Título/Title: Insights into supernovae through spectral analysis

Resumo/Abstract:

The analysis of supernovae spectra can provide insights into the nature and structure of the progenitor star and hence test stellar evolution. Spectral analyses can also provide insights into the physics of the supernovae explosion. Moreover, supernovae spectra can be used to determine distances, independent of any assumption about them being a standard candle. In this talk I discuss recent efforts we have made towards accurately modeling their spectra and using them for distance determinations.
