The new picture of the galactic spiral pattern with branching arms is presented. The arguments in favor of the closeness of the Sun to the corotation resonance are given. The influence of the corotation resonance on the various galactic phenomena - global structure of the Galaxy, Cassini-like division in the galactic gaseous disk, trajectory of the solar-type star and the galactic chemical abundance distribution - is considered.
